Kwandwe Private Game Reserve is located approximately 65 km from the east coast of South Africa, close to the renowned Garden Route, in the malaria-free Eastern Cape. The reserve is ideally located for both fly-in and self-drive safaris and is the perfect add-on to an itinerary featuring other destinations in South Africa (Cape Town and the Garden Route), or other Southern African countries.
Fly
Kwandwe is easily accessible via two nearby airports: Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), approximately 160 km (100 miles) from the reserve, and East London, approximately 185 km (115 miles) away. Guests can fly on scheduled commercial services into either airport before continuing to the reserve by road transfer or helicopter transfer. For those seeking a more direct route, private charter aircraft can fly directly into Kwandwe’s private Category 3 tarred airstrip, offering seamless access to the reserve.

There are daily scheduled flights from Cape Town and Johannesburg international airports to both Port Elizabeth and East London Airports, followed by either a 2-hour drive by road or a short helicopter flight to Kwandwe Private Game Reserve.

Drive
The distance from Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) to Kwandwe is approximately 160 km (100 miles), about two hours by road. From East London it is 185 km (115 miles), also about two hours. Please use the R67 and avoid the R350, which is not suitable for the drive to Kwandwe. A 2-wheel drive vehicle is sufficient on the recommended route. Self-drive guests can leave their vehicle in the car park at Heatherton Towers and will be transferred to their lodge by safari vehicle. See our self-drive travel advisory.
