Location
The scenery surrounding Uplands Homestead is the making of childhood dreams. The most remote of the three exclusive-use villas, located in the west of the reserve, the immediate manicured garden contrasts with the African wilderness beyond: sweeping slopes decorated with hundreds of aloes and the tranquil Great Fish River valley stretching into the distance.
Accommodation
Built in the early 1900s, the original farmhouse has been lovingly restored to ensure its charm, warmth and character shine through. There are three suites with private verandas and en-suite bathrooms, and antique mirrors and yellowwood chests and wardrobes blend seamlessly with air-conditioning, in-room safes, underfloor heating and other conveniences. The kitchen is the homestead’s heart and soul, where meals are created to be shared by friends and family under the African sky.
Activities
With a private safari vehicle, ranger and tracker, every day at Uplands is shaped entirely around your interests and pace. Explore the reserve on game drives, guided bush walks accompanied by an armed ranger, and fishing excursions, with the freedom to linger at sightings, follow your curiosity, or simply enjoy being in the bush. Back at the homestead, unwind beside the swimming pool, enjoy the sweeping gardens, or simply settle in and savour the space and privacy that define Uplands.

The nearest major airport is Port Elizabeth (PLZ), 160 km (100 miles) from the reserve. Daily flights are available from Cape Town (CPT) and Johannesburg (JNB) international airports. From Port Elizabeth, it’s a 2-hour drive or a scenic helicopter flight (inquire for costs) to Kwandwe Private Game Reserve. Alternatively, for a truly exclusive arrival, land directly on the reserve’s private Category 3 airstrip. Inquire for details on charter flights and GPS coordinates.
